I didnt upgrade to the multiscan, as I was a bit niffed at silverfast for not offering it for free, I spent extra on the scanner to get the AI version. I do have silverfast, and I do use it a bit, but I just feel I get better more accurate results from vuescan. I mostly get better results with Vuescan. The manual wasn't much help, I ended up buying a book called "Silverfast: The Official Guide" by Taz Tally. The biggest problem for me with Ai was figuring out how to use all the different tools. I don't now remember what features caused me to upgrade to Ai but I think that most of the raves for Silverfast are for Ai or the higher versions (e.g. Occasionally I'd send a question to the guy who owns the company, sometimes he'd respond and sometimes he wouldn't. I liked Vuescan just fine except that I didn't find the terminology very intuitive and the on-line help wasn't much help either. ![]() Silverfast is scanner specific so you have to buy it all over again each time you switch scanners. A nice thing about Vuescan is that you can use it with so many different scanners so once you buy it you've got it even when you replace your scanner. I liked the Epson software that came with my 4990 but it was kind of primitive compared to Vuescan and Silverfast, the software with the V700 may be better. Silverfast SE (mac): it seems this software gets rave reviews everywhere. the area selection tool is oddĪt best and it seems to hang often and doesn't open the files straight in PS. VueScan (Mac): tons of features, i mean tons. Rename the settings or where they are stored. Target size and ideally the positioning of the crop of 2 strips. What I cannot figure out is how to save settings! It is driving me insane! I wish to save the Just from my gut it seems to produce the cleanest scans.
